ABOUT BL ISOC
At BL ISoc, we aim to cater for the religious, spiritual, social and academic needs of not just all Muslims on campus but anyone and everyone. Although we are primarily and also by name a religious society, we believe that this alone isn’t good enough. Our religion teaches us to strive for excellence in all walks of life and to do whatever we do to the best of our abilities so at BL ISoc we always try to adopt this ethos.
We hold a variety of events throughout the year; some spiritual, some academic and some just for fun! We have Discover Islam Week where we hold exhibitions for the public and do our street challenges, with the help of a few Krispy Kreme doughnuts of course. We have weekly talks and workshops, a network of super friendly older years always happy to give you a hand and lastly but maybe most importantly, lots and lots of food!
We also pride ourselves on our charity and outreach opportunities we bring to the university. Over the past few years, we have brought together students across both campuses through our new initiative; ROCK (Reconnecting Our Community through Kindness). We’ve run toy drives, first aid teaching, food drives and distributions for the homeless and we have exciting plans to expand on that in the coming year!
Lastly, through Charity Week, we provide the unique opportunity for student at Bart’s to help raise money for orphans around the world. We host a variety of events which brings together all societies at Barts and within one week we raised a massive £54,000. With your help, we hope to do better next year!
So the simple answer to the question what does BL ISoc do? We do everything 😉
